Woman Finds Lingerie Tag That Shows She’s Been Wearing Her Bra All Wrong For Years

Bras are both a necessity and a nightmare. Finding the right size, fit and style can be totally overwhelming, not to mention totally draining.

How often do we check the instructions on clothes and on how to actually wear them? Well, I myself can admit, NEVER! Even if there are instructional tags that come with clothes, we certainly don’t tend to read those steps because we believe we know how to wear what we wear, right? Wrong. This is true for most clothing items and especially true for women but when it comes to wearing a bra, this story might teach you something.

Women wear them day in and day out and they think they know it all. But recently, a woman found out through a lingerie tag that she had actually been wearing her bra all wrong for almost 20 years.

How did we discover this revelation? Just to clarify, we can’t take the credit. Brittany Packnett set the internet on fire on October 12th, when she tweeted about this newly found discovery. From this tweet, she learned that she’s not the only one who has been making this same mistake wearing her bras wrong. Tons of women came forward.

Take a look at the story and see if you too have been wearing your bras wrong too.

It all started when she purchased a new brassiere from ThirdLove and noticed a tag titled, “How to put on a bra,” but disregarded it because this wasn’t her first undergarment purchase.

But when the bra didn’t fit right, she turned her attention to the three-step instructions attached. And that’s when it happened … her “bra-velation!”

This graphic on a bra company’s tag shows the right way to wear a bra. ThirdLove via Today.com:

“Most women are wearing a band that’s too large for them and are wearing their band on the tightest hook to overcompensate for the extra room. But if you wear a brand-new bra on any other hook than the loosest, you’re probably in too big of a band size,” Ra’el Cohen, head of design at ThirdLove, told TODAY Style.

According to ThirdLove, this method will give you the best fit and prevent your bra from stretching out — and experts agree!

How To Put On A Bra?

You must be intrigued, or must be thinking we are mad to even ask a woman this. But, these were the exact words which were written on a lingerie tag. And when Brittany Packnett, an Activist, Educator, and a Writer read those instructions on that lingerie tag, she found the correct ways of wearing a bra.

At first, she thought, why does she even need to read the steps? But then she just decided to read on, and after realizing that her way of wearing a bra was wrong the wrong way and that she had been doing it wrong for 20 years, she had to share it on Twitter!

The topic — clearly close to women’s hearts — sent shockwaves through social media, with responses ranging from amazement to outrage to denial.

The Correct Way

The debate on whether women have been wearing their bra wrongly or not was started by this very picture, which basically tells the correct ways. The bra with which Brittany received that tag, with instructions came from ThirdLove, an internet retailer selling designer bras. After reading the tag, Brittany admitted, “I was all wrong.

I was in the middle hook and I did *not* do proper breast placement.” Like Brittany, many women believe that the middle hook is the best for the perfect fit, but they found that it is actually the loosest clasp, which is indeed the best.

Even the experts at Town Shop explain that clasping on the loosest hook actually helps by making it last longer because the fabric gradually loses its elasticity and going from the loosest to the tightest makes perfect sense. The same principle applies to the straps and they are also needed to be tightened over a period of time for that perfect fit.

The Other Problem

Now, whether you believe it or not, many women, not only aren’t aware of the right ways of wearing a bra, but they actually don’t even wear the bra of a correct size. And if you think you too are facing this problem, then either you could talk to an expert or take the T-shirt test.

You can do this test at home or when you go for bra shopping. What you need to do is wear the bra underneath your plain cotton T-shirt and if the bra fits smoothly, it will look perfect under the T-shirt. On the other hand, if you’re gapping or your bra is too tight for comfort, then the fit is bad. The basic rule is that with your cotton T-shirt, the bra’s fitting should seem like a smooth sail.

Female Bonding Over a Bra

Twitter

The initial Tweet by Brittany got many responses from women. Some chimed with Brittany’s story and confessed that they too had been doing it all wrong their whole life.

While some came out with their own pieces of advice, on what mistakes do women make and on how to perfectly wear a bra. No matter how the debate unfolded, the good part was that this topic brought so many people together on discussing the details of a daily task. And the best part, women from the around the world bonded over a bra!

Twitter users were quick to chime in with their own bra-tastic advice.

The good news? Strangers over the internet bonded over the fact that they’d all been doing this daily task incorrectly.

The most important part of wearing a bra is that you’re comfortable. No set of instructions can quite assure that.

However, these pointers are valuable and might lead to a better, longer lasting fit.

The moral of the story? Apparently, when it comes to our unmentionables, we need to, well, mention them more. Sharing is caring. A slow clap for Brittany Packnett!
