A relationship is a two-way street. When one person is selfish beyond measure, the relationship is bound to hit some bumps in the road until it falls apart completely. Selfishness can cause resentment, animosity and pain. If your partner is being selfish, it’s time to sit down and talk things through. If you’re the one displaying selfish tendencies, you’ll want to re-think your behavior if you want the relationship to last.
Here are six signs your partner is extremely selfish:
1. They Want Everything To Happen On Their Terms
For a selfish person, it’s their way or the highway. A major sign that you’re in a relationship with a selfish person is they demand that everything happens on their terms. They make all the plans and all the decisions and are unwilling to compromise.
2. The Majority Of Communication Is Negative Or Neutral
A selfish person doesn’t consider anyone else’s feelings. That means they don’t care enough to ask you how your day went or congratulate you on an achievement. If the majority of communication with your partner is negative or neutral, it’s a clear sign that they are only thinking about themselves.
3. They Don’t Put Forth Any Effort
Lack of effort is another sign that you’re in a relationship with a selfish person. They aren’t willing to go the extra mile to make you happy, to compliment you or to surprise you with an impromptu date night, because they are too selfish to think about what you might want or need.
4. They Don’t Want To Commit
A selfish person might claim to be uncomfortable with the word boyfriend or girlfriend. Lack of commitment, especially after a long period of time, is a sign that they are using you. They want to keep you around and string you along for their own needs, but they are too selfish to commit even though they know that’s what will make you happy.
5. They Flirt With Other People
If your partner purposefully flirts with other people in front of you, they are both selfish and immature. They clearly don’t care about how you feel, and they don’t stop to think about how their actions are hurting you. They are selfish to their core.
6. They Don’t Take Responsibility For Their Actions
Selfish people never think they are wrong. They are willing to put the blame on anyone and everyone if it means they don’t have to apologize or admit to any wrongdoing. If your partner refuses to take responsibility for their actions or admit when they’re wrong, they are truly selfish.
